Floor-Seated Mehfil Hall · Sehnshahi Cushions · Vocal PA + Harmonium · 200 Free Parking · Alcohol-Free
A mehfil is not just an event — it's a tradition that's older than most modern music genres. From Mughal-era poetry gatherings to today's intimate qawali nights and mushaira evenings, the format is the same: floor seating, soft warm lighting, a single low stage, and an audience close enough to feel like part of the performance. Most Birmingham wedding halls and corporate venues simply cannot do this — they're built for tables and chairs, not for a circular floor-seated mehfil with 200 guests sharing chai while a qawali ensemble works through a 90-minute set.
LUXE VENUE was designed with mehfils in mind. Our main hall converts to a floor-seated mehfil layout in 90 minutes using 350 sehnshahi cushions, low masnads, dim warm uplighting and traditional carpet runners. We are the only Birmingham venue that does this layout regularly — and we have hosted mehfils of every variety: music mehfils (qawali, ghazal, classical), mushaira (Urdu poetry), milad sharif (devotional gatherings), family eid mehfils (large extended-family lunches), and aza mehfils (mourning gatherings during Muharram).
A typical music mehfil runs 3 hours with one main act and an interval. Audience is floor-seated, performers on a low 0.6m stage, harmonium and tabla mic'd through our X32 desk. Average attendance 150–250.
A series of poets recite ghazals and nazms to a floor-seated audience. Audience participation ("wah wah" and "subhanallah") is part of the form. Audio needs are simple — one vocal mic + one floor mic for audience response. We've hosted mushaira evenings featuring poets from Pakistan, India and the UK diaspora. Average attendance 80–180.
Celebrations of the birth of the Prophet (PBUH) involve recitations of naat, qaseeda and devotional poetry. Floor-seated, family-friendly, sometimes followed by langar (free communal food). Average attendance 100–300.
Large extended-family gatherings around Eid, Mehndi after-parties, or "welcome back from Hajj" celebrations. Mix of floor seating and chairs for elderly, light entertainment (sometimes a hired qawal party), full Halal meal. Average attendance 60–200.
Solemn floor-seated gatherings during the first 10 days of Muharram. We provide black-cloth draping, lower lighting levels, and a dignified atmosphere. Audio is minimal — voice amplification for the speaker only.
Weekday afternoon or Sunday afternoon. 3-hour hire, capacity up to 80.
Weekend evening. 4-hour hire, capacity up to 180.
Saturday evening. 5-hour hire, capacity up to 350.
Tables-and-chairs setups break the mehfil format. The audience disconnects, the energy spreads thin, and the performer ends up "presenting to" rather than "sitting with" the crowd. The floor seating format does three things tables cannot:
The trade-off is comfort for elderly attendees, which we solve with a perimeter ring of chairs at floor level — same eye-line as the floor crowd, no exclusion to the "back rows".
Mehfil food is its own genre — light, sharable, traditional, served slowly throughout the evening. Our most-booked options:
Mehfils typically book 6–12 weeks ahead. Saturday evenings in peak season (April–September) and Muharram dates (varies yearly) fill 4–6 months ahead. To start:
